RESIDENTS

We are happy that we have the privilege to work closely with local residents to improve areas of Leazes Park and collaboratively plan our event.

This year’s trail will largely follow a similar format around the park, but with 100% new installations and a larger, more varied food and beverage offering. We will be live for fewer days, these are outlined below. We have taken on board feedback from residents and have adjusted our plans accordingly. In 2024 we are committed to building on our charitable and fundraising work and we are committed to ensuring Northern Lights Newcastle continues to be an inclusive and accessible event for all.

Key dates and times for our 2024 trail:

  • Northern Lights Newcastle will open on Friday 22nd November and will run until Tuesday 31st December. The trail will be open daily, excluding:
    • Monday 25th – Wednesday 27th November
    • Monday 2nd – Tuesday 3rd December
    • Monday 9th – Tuesday 10th December
    • Wednesday 25th December
  • Guests can enter the trail between 16:15 – 20:15 on peak days and between 16:15 – 19:15 on off-peak days. The trail and associated catering outlets will close no later than 90 minutes after the final advertised trail time on any given event night to minimise the impact on residents in the evenings.
  • Our production team will be onsite constructing our installations from 13th November before the trail and will dismantle the trail between the 2nd and the 8th January. Work will commence at 08:00 and will finish approximately 1 hour after dark for most days.
  • Public can access the park as normal from daily 06:00 – 15:00

The light trail is organised by From the Fields and the production is managed by 2Can Productions, a seasoned event production company renowned for managing large-scale events nationwide. Our event planning prioritises the needs of residents, and we are committed to collaborating closely with both residents and local businesses to mitigate disruptions whenever feasible.

Access to the Park

The park will be accessible to the public from 06:00 – 15:00 everyday, with all gates being open to allow thoroughfare through the park.

Noise Management

We acknowledge the potential impact of noise on residents near the trail, and our creative team is diligently collaborating with external noise consultants to mitigate any audio disturbances. Each installation along the trail will be accompanied by custom-designed soundtracks. Additionally, we will implement a comprehensive noise management plan, incorporating on-site and designated off-site noise level measurements throughout the trail’s duration. This proactive approach will allow us to make real-time adjustments to sound levels as needed.

When concerns were raised regarding noise levels near Leazes Terrace last year, we promptly took action to address the issue. Our swift response resulted in the reduction of noise levels to a reasonable degree, ensuring that the trail remained enjoyable without causing undue interference to nearby residents.
